VP Ecosystems, Market Enablers & Customer Innovation Centers at Nokia
Jean-Luc Beylat is head of Bell Labs France, VP Ecosystems and Market Enablers for Nokia and is also Chairman of the Business Cluster Systematic Paris–Region, which has more than 800 members and has labeled for more than 2.8 billion Euros in research and development projects. He is also chairman of the French association of the competitive clusters (AFPC).
Jean-Luc first joined Alcatel in 1984 and worked on semiconductor lasers. In 1992 he launched various activities concerning WDM transmission. In 1996 he was named as Director of Systems Departments and Optical Networks at Alcatel’s research centre, where he was responsible for global research-based activities and terrestrial and submarine transmission. In 2000, he joined Alcatel Optic as Program Director then as Vice President for network solutions. In 2005, he was appointed VP R&D partnership at the Alcatel CTO office.
Jean-Luc holds a doctorate in physics on semi-conductor lasers and their application, awarded by The University of Pierre Marie Curie (UPMC, France). He is a member of the Board of IRT SystemX, of the “Paris-Region Entreprise”, of the EIT Digital of the European Institute of Innovation and technology, and of the European Photonic 21 PPP.
In February 2013, he was selected by the European Commission to take part in CONNECT Advisory Forum (CAF), an expert council for the European commission. Finally, with Pierre Tambourin he is co-author of one report entitled “Innovation: a major issue for France”, which was commissioned by the government in April 2013, and one report on intellectual property produced by academics delivered in June 2016 to the minister in charge of research in France.
He has co-created in 2008 and chaired the Jean Jerphagnon Prize which is becoming a reference prize for excellence for research to entrepreneurship in optics field.
