2016- Present: Chief Technology Officer, Royal Philips. Global responsibility for Innovation and Technology Strategy, Digital Architecture, Research, HealthTech Accelerator and Philips Innovation Campus Bangalore. Vice-chair of the Group Innovation Board.

2010-2015: Executive Vice President & General Manager Philips Research. Responsibility for the Corporate Research labs, forming part of Philips Group Innovation. Labs in Eindhoven (NL), Cambridge (UK), Hamburg and Aachen (Germany), Suresnes (FR), Cambridge (MA), Burlington (MA), Shanghai, and Bangalore.

2005-2015: Research Program Manager Healthcare. This function was combined from 2005-2009 with that of General Manager Philips Research Aachen, Germany.

2002-2005: Research Program Manager Lighting, Devices and Microsystems.

1991-2002: Various Research Department Head positions (Exploratory Physics, Optics, Storage Signal Processing). Highlight: research and standardization of the BluRay disc system.

1993-1996: Visiting professorship Leiden University- “Mesoscopic Physics” (Gorter Chair).

1985-1988 and 1989-1991: Research on quantum transport in semiconductor nanostructures.

1988-1989: North American Philips Corporation, Philips Research Briarcliff Manor, NY, Research on II-VI semiconductor laser.
