Principal Staff Engineer at STMicroelectronics
Dr. Francesco Gennaro graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1996 and pursued the Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 2000 both at University of Catania. After a period as Associate Researcher at University of Catania and a period at University of Wisconsin, Madison (WI), USA, he joined STMicroelectronics in Catania as Application Engineer for Industrial & Consumer Applications.
In 2005, he joined IMS Systems Lab as Power Conversion Team Manager. The activity was based on high efficiency power converters with a special focus on solar power conversion, from string inverter to micro inverter and power optimizer. Since 2015 he is Principal Staff Engineer with focus on SMPS and PV converters. During the last 5 years he has been involved in European Funded Projects, coordinating two ENIAC project, i.e. ERG and E2SG, which are dedicated to solar energy and smart grid, with more than 25 European partners each, from industry, research centers and Universities.
He is author of more than 40 papers on IEEE Journal, Conferences and other magazines and holds 6 patents on power converters and related solutions.
Currently, he is managing the “High Efficiency High Power Converters Applications”, developing roadmap of new and innovative solutions in the field of high efficiency converters, i.e. Data Center applications, and High Power/High Frequency converter using Wide Band Gap (WBG) devices and digital controllers, i.e. Silicon Carbide (SiC) based multilevel converters and Gallium Nitride (GaN) based Wireless Power Transfer.
