Prof. dr. Cees van Beers
Head of the section Technology, Strategy and Entrepreneurship at Delft University of Technology
Prof.dr. Cees van Beers is full professor of Innovation Management and Head of the section Technology, Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the faculty of Technology, Policy and Management of Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands.
He holds a doctorate in economics (Ph.D) from the Free University Amsterdam. He also worked at the University of Leiden, the Institute for Research on Public Expenditure in the Hague and as associate professor on innovation economics. He has published extensively on determinants and management of innovations and how they contribute to organizational and societal performance in international journals such as Research Policy, Journal of Innovation Product Management, Industrial and Corporate Change, Technology Analysis and Strategic Management, Small Business Economics, Journal of European Development Studies.
His present research focus is on the investigating business models overcoming the tension between firm’s value capturing and society’s value creation. One of his present research projects is on Frugal Innovations and Responsible Entrepreneurship: Case Studies in the Water and Health Sectors in East Africa.
Prof. van Beers is co-founder of the Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa, one of joint initiatives of Leiden University, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam. The Centre for Frugal Innovation in Africa investigates how frugal innovation can contribute to inclusive growth and transformation in Africa. The aim is to develop analytical frameworks and thinking models that can help us to better understand and assess the developmental implications of frugal innovation, and can therewith lead to a more balanced perspective on what the phenomenon of frugal innovation entails, both locally, nationally and globally.
